Abstract

ONE of us (M. T.) has proposed that the archaeomagnetic method of dating be used to examine a number of Iranian baked earths in the Istituto Italiano. This information was sent to Japan by Aitken, leading to a cooperative programme involving the Istituto Italiano and the Universities of Oxford, Kyoto and Osaka. The first trip to collect the baked earths (see Fig. 1) was made in October 1971.
