Abstract
MANY aromatic organochlorine compounds are readily utilized or otherwise decomposed by a number of specific microorganisms. In the environment, however, these compounds are relatively stable and resistant to general microbial breakdown. For many of these compounds photochemical degradation, induced by the ultraviolet content of the Sun's light, may be a major pathway of decomposition.
