Abstract

IT is now well established that insulin is synthesized according to the proinsulin route1–4. Our studies are concerned with the mechanisms of biosynthesis in anglerfish islets. The anglerfish insulin was isolated chromatographically on CM-cellulose as previously described5,6; a typical chromatogram is presented in Fig. 1. The main components of the first two peaks were found to be two pep tides which have amino-acid compositions similar to that of hog glucagon.
