Abstract
THE resolution of oxalatbis(ethylenediamine)cobalt(III) bromide by way of the preferential crystallization of one optical enantiomorph was first demonstrated by Werner1. Seed crystals of optically active oxalatobis(ethylenediamine)cobalt(III) were added to a solution containing 2 g of the racemic compound. The subsequent addition of alcohol gave 0.2 g of dextro bromide in 95 per cent optical purity (sodium D-line rotations). A marked improvement of this resolution is reported here in which optically active tris(ethylenediamine)cobalt(III) acetate is used.
