Abstract
THE treatment of human peripheral blood leucocyte cultures with phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) causes a transformation of small lymphocytes to primitive blast cells after morphological and cytochemical changes1–4. The cells undergoing the transformation acquire the ability to synthesize DNA5,6 and the morphological changes observed after 24–72 h of incubation are accompanied by an increase of RNA synthesis7,8.
