Abstract

Bobrowsky and Stack1 have suggested the possibility of using the hydrostatic extrusion process as a means of fabricating wire. That this is a proved fact is shown in Fig. 1. This shows five stages in the production of aluminium wire from a ½-in. diam. bar. For illustration purposes in showing all reductions on one specimen, extrusion has been stopped at an earlier point on each successive pass, a fact which also points to the smoothness of this particular operation.
