Ring Chromosomes in Human Beings

Abstract

RING chromosomes have been found in some species, the most intensively studied being maize1 and Drosophila2. They have also been induced by irradiating human cells in vitro3 and are known to occur in human tumours4. We have recently found a ring chromosome in two children, a different chromosome being involved in each case. There are no apparent signs of neoplastic disease in either patient.
