Abstract

CAMERON1 considers that the mechanism which I have proposed to explain radio emission from elliptical galaxies2 is implausible. Since I have been looking into this question rather carefully, I do not agree; but the discussion of this problem is of great complexity and nothing can be gained by making general assertions. Let us concentrate therefore on a discussion of the mechanism of energy generation put forward in Cameron's communication with the view of deciding whether it provides a reasonable alternative to the mechanism proposed by me.
