Abstract
BOTH the size reached by an animal and its rate of growth are determined by a number of factors. Some of these are peculiar to living organisms, whereas others appear to be of a more simple physical or chemical nature. One factor of the second kind—namely, the acceleration due to the field in which the animal is growing—is, of course, remarkably constant over the whole of the Earth's surface.
