Abstract
THE rapid induction of mammary carcinomas in rats treated by intra-gastric administration of 3-methylcholanthrene has been described by Huggins, Briziarelli and Sutton1. It was afterwards shown by Huggins, Grand and Brillantes2 that the physiological state of the mammary tree was critical in the development of such tumours, and they were unable to induce mammary carcinomas in hypophysectomized rats. The present report describes the induction of mammary carcinomas in hypophysectomized rats which were treated intra-gastrically with 3-methylcholanthrene and in which partial replacement therapy was attempted with œstradiol-17β, progesterone, and growth hormone.
