Abstract
LANGUAGE, whether written or spoken, is one of the most sensitive indices of central nervous disorder; in a variety of neuropsychiatric states the speech and writing of the patient may be the main physical manifestation of disease. A technique of language analysis has been evolved with clinical needs in mind; but an attempt has also been made to provide a neurophysiological working hypothesis to account for the main empirical findings of the method.
