Abstract
THE influence of parathormone on the level of citric acid in plasma was first mentioned by Sjöström1, who found an elevated level of citric acid in patients with hyperparathyroidism; this finding was afterwards confirmed by other authors. The effect of parathormone on the citric acid level was verified by Neuman et al. 2, who measured the amount of the acid in the venous blood of bones and found an elevated level after the application of parathormone. The purpose of the work reported in this communication was to prove this effect of parathormone on the metabolism of citric acid also in other tissues and to try to explain the mode of action.
