Abstract

ION-EXCHANGE resins, especially ‘Amberlite IRC-50’, have recently been used for the purification of proteins1–5; with the aid of this cation exchanger, two different hæmoglobins, fœtal sheep and bovine carboxyhæmoglobin, could be separated6. Extending these experiments to human hæmoglobin, we developed two methods for the separation and quantitative estimation of four different kinds of human hæmoglobin, namely, carboxyhæmoglobin-A (adult), B (sickle cell), C and F (fœtal).
