Abstract

MANY experiments have been carried out in different laboratories in recent years to determine whether particle size or lattice distortion is the predominant cause of X-ray line-broadening from cold-worked metals1–6. These have produced conflicting results, even when subjected to the critical test of varying wave-lengths of the X-radiation4,6.
