Abstract

IN considering the self-energy problem on the basis of the multiple-time formalism of quantum electrodynamics, Wentzel1 has obtained the relation where mn(s) is the rest-mass of a field-free particle, mn the corresponding mass in an electromagnetic field and s the particle extension. If we now assume that mn(s) and mn refer to the masses of two fundamental particles M1 and M2 (expressed in terms of the electron mass m) it follows directly from equation (1) that
