Abstract
ON May 24, 1543, died Nioolaus Copernicus. A few days previously, as he lay on his deathbed, the first printed copy of his great work, “De Revolutionibus Orbium Coalestium” , which was destined to become the cornerstone of modern astronomy, was placed in his hands.
