Abstract

THE most important resource available to man is knowledge, forthe materials and forces in his environment become useful to him only as he learns about them, and through science and technology converts them to his needs. In view of this fact, any denial of the right to follow the truth wherever it leads will assuredly hamper the future growth of science and so dim humanity's prospects. To-day, the widespread recognition of the fundamental importance of study and research to society is indicated by the huge sums and vast amount of energy invested in schooling and development of new techniques.
