Barbels and barbel-like tentacular structures in sub-mammalian vertebrates: a review

  • Published:
Hydrobiologia Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract

The following account is a synthesis of current knowledge on the barbels/tentacles of an array of submammalian forms and for the first time compares and contrasts their structure and function. In addition, the extensive background information on the homology and phylogeny of these structures is reviewed and evaluated.
