“The Road goes ever on and on

Down from the door where it began.

Now far ahead the Road has gone,

And I must follow, if I can,

Pursuing it with eager feet,

Until it joins some larger way,

Where many paths and errands meet”

Happy New year !!!!!

The New Year also marks a new beginning as I take over the helm as the Editor of our prestigious Journal of Indian Prosthodontic Society which has been a long cherished dream. To the members of the Head Office, my mentors and to all of you an overwhelming thank you for supporting me in this endeavor!!

It will be a herculean task to match up to the standards set by my predecessors. The primary objective of the editorial board is to take the journal to the next level. Journal peer reviewing and scientific writing are going to be of paramount importance so as to help the reviewers and the authors alike. Therefore the Head Office has planned a slew of acitivities for the benefit of our members.

Research is the need of the hour to increase our knowledge base and understanding of Prosthodontics and to advance our clinical practice for the benefit of mankind. Research can be classified broadly into quantitative research and qualitative research. Quantitative research has been the norm in dentistry. Qualitative research which is dominant within social sciences is also recognized to be of equal importance to health sciences. Qualitative research methods are quite useful in evaluation and exploring subject areas that are inadequately understood. Qualitative research methods helps to identify peoples’ thoughts, feelings, attitudes, perceptions and preferences. Both the types of research address different research questions and therefore contribute to different aspects of clinical practice.

But qualitative research needs to be encouraged amongst Prosthodontists wherein it has wider clinical applications.

And for that purpose the methodology needs to be understood and the researcher needs to be trained.

With this I encourage our members to take up active research and publish your research papers.

Wish you all once again a great year ahead!!!
