Abstract
Many reputable open-access publishers use the “author pays” model to financially support their publishing endeavors. This model is being increasing abused by publishers with bogus or counterfeit journal websites that are solely interested in financial gain. So how can scientists and professionals make educated decisions when selecting a journal for their written work, when agreeing to serve as reviewers or editors, or when rating articles published in journals?
