Abstract

The first record of Lillipathes ritamariae Opresko and Breedy, 2010 from the southeastern Pacific is presented based on a collected specimen that became entangled in a demersal longline at about 1300–1800 m depth off Caldera (27° S), northern Chile. This record extends the known geographical distribution of this species in the eastern Pacific more than 4200 km in the southward direction along the western coast of South America. This species is also the eleventh confirmed black coral species record from the country.
