Een lage sociaal-economische status gecombineerd met andere risicofactoren beïnvloedt de lichamelijke en psychosociale gezondheid vanaf de kinderleeftijd tot volwassenheid. Bovendien worden deze factoren van de ene op de andere generatie overgedragen. De impact ervan is enorm. In de Verenigde Staten van Amerika (VS) richt het Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) programma zich op jonge hoogrisicozwangeren en hun kinderen. Nederland is het eerste land buiten de VS dat dit programma mag gaan gebruiken, onder de naam VoorZorg.
VoorZorg wordt in 3 elkaar overlappende fasen ontwikkeld. Fase 1 bestond uit vertaling en culturele aanpassing van het NFP-programma en de opzet van een tweetrapsselectieprocedure. Fase 2 bestond uit een pilotfase waarin de voorwaarden voor implementatie zijn onderzocht. Op dit moment loopt fase 3: een gerandomiseerd onderzoek, om na te gaan of de effecten van de VoorZorginterventie in Nederland vergelijkbaar zijn met die in de VS, op grond van het feit dat de gezondheidszorg in Nederland anders is ingericht dan in de VS.
De primaire uitkomstmaten van dit onderzoek zijn stoppen met roken tijdens de zwangerschap en na de bevalling, geboorte-uitkomsten, ontwikkeling van de kinderen, kindermishandeling en huiselijk geweld.
Onze hypothese is dat VoorZorg doeltreffend is in het aanpakken van risicofactoren bij deze vrouwen en hun kinderen.
