Zusammenfassung

Das deutsche militärische Engagement in Afghanistan endet. Deutschland und seine internationalen Partner lassen ein Land zurück, das durch ethnische Diversität und wirtschaftliche Not geprägt ist. Vergleiche mit dem Irak machen deutlich, dass auch Afghanistan droht, ein gescheiterter Staat zu bleiben. Dieser Beitrag zieht ein Resümee des Afghanistaneinsatzes und wagt einen Ausblick auf die Zukunft des Landes.

Abstract

The German military deployment in Afghanistan is ending. It leaves a country that is marked by its ethnic diversity as well as economic poverty and is therefore highly conflict-prone. Comparing the situation in Afghanistan to the withdrawal in Iraq illustrates that Afghanistan could turn into a failed state, too. This article provides an ex-post analysis of the military operation and takes a look at the prospects for Afghanistan.
