Zusammenfassung

Die evidenzbasierte Medizin (EbM) hat zum Ziel, medizinische Entscheidungen auf der Grundlage der besten verfügbaren Daten unter Berücksichtigung von Patientenpräferenzen zu treffen. Systematische Übersichtsarbeiten, ein wesentliches Instrument der EbM, helfen, die Informationsflut zu bewältigen und medizinische Forschungsergebnisse strukturiert aufzuarbeiten. Die internationale Cochrane Collaboration hat neben wesentlichen methodischen Arbeiten in diesem Feld auch mehr als 3600 systematische Übersichtsarbeiten hoher Qualität zu verschiedensten Fragestellungen der Medizin erstellt. Innerhalb der Cochrane Library stehen sie zusammen mit anderen Ressourcen, wie der umfassendsten Sammlung klinischer Studien, evidenzorientierten Medizinern zur Verfügung.

Abstract

The aim of evidence-based medicine (EBM) is to enable medical decisions that are based on the best available data with regard to patient preferences. Systematic reviews, one of the most important instruments of EBM, help to manage the information overload and to structure medical research results. The Cochrane Collaboration has not only contributed substantially to methodological advancements but has also prepared more than 3,600 reviews on a wide variety of topics in medicine. The Cochrane Library provides access to these systematic reviews but also offers access to other resources relevant to the evidence-oriented physician, e.g., to the largest collection of clinical trials.
