Friedel–Crafts acylation of 2-methoxynaphthalene with acetic anhydride over Al-HMS

Abstract

Al-hexagonal mesoporous silica (HMS) was synthesized using a neutral dodecylamine as template and tetraethyl orthosilicate as a Si source in the alkalescent solution. The characterization data suggested a mesoporous structure of the obtained Al-HMS with Al incorporated into the framework of HMS. Al-HMS was further used as catalyst to catalyze the acylation of 2-methoxynaphthalene with acetic anhydride. The results showed that the major product was 2-methoxy-1-acetonaphthone, with the reaction conversion of 25.3 % and selectivity towards 2-methoxy-1-acetonaphthone of 85.8 % under the optimized conditions.
