Abstract
Percutaneous ultrasound permits safe guidance of biopsies of the chest wall, pleura and the upper anterior mediastinum. Peripheral lung lesions can be punctured if they reach the pleura or if pleural effusion or atelectasis is interposed. Complications are rare under ultrasound guidance and important diagnostic information can be obtained. Ultrasonic guidance facilitates placement of drainages especially in pleural effusions.
