Abstract
In 1970 V. Janda and M. Vavrova started adapting the concept of sensory motion stimulation for clinical application which involves the enhancement of afferent stimuli from the sole of the foot. Janda and Vavrova perceived the receptors in the sole of the foot as having the most important proprioceptive influence. These receptors can be provoked by skin stimulation, active contraction of the inner foot muscles (short toe bending muscles or quadrates plantae muscles) and by forming the so-called short foot. In this article the indications, contraindications and therapeutic goals are explained. Furthermore, exercise structure with variants and aids, such as balance boards, gyros, balance shoes and trampolines are described. A basic structure of posture and balance is achieved by the muscles in the sole of the foot. The speed of muscle spindle contraction doubles after only 1 week of exercising and so preventing joint injuries. The exercises can be performed daily without a great deal of effort.
