Abstract
New area where particulate composites are receiving attention is the development of nanoparticle biocomposites, as a result of increasing research on the production of nanoparticle biocomposites with agro-waste particles (groundnut shell) that motivate this work. The groundnut shell ash of nanoparticles (GSAnps) of 20–100 nm was used in research. The composites were produced by injection method using polylactic acid (PLA) and GSAnp. The process parameters of the study are as follows: wt%GSAnp, wt%PEG, annealing temperature and time. Tensile strength and Taguchi’s design approach were used to evaluate the composite performance. The results showed that the optimal condition was obtained at 20 wt%GSAnp, 4wt%PEG, annealing temperature of 100 °C and annealing time of 6 h. The tensile strength values of optimal setting obtained are within the confidence interval of estimated optimal setting. About 168% improving in tensile strength was recorded over that of pure PLA that means that the use of GSAnp is promising in improving the tensile strength of PLA for engineering application.
