Auto-immune reactions in the course of ulcerative colitis

Summary

1. The immunologic reactions by collodion agglutination method has been studied in 225 subjects. Positive reactions have been obtained only in the 30 patients with ulcerative colitis.

2. In patients with ulcerative colitis, the results of the collodion reaction correlate well with the course of the disease.

3. It is suggested that auto-immune reactions play an important part in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis.
