Summary

In order to reconstitute CIV membrane, we have solubilized with β-D-octylglucoside the external components of the viral particle. Electron micrographs of these extracts show the presence of vesicles 50 to 200 nm in size. Incubation of these reconstituted vesicles with different cell line cultures leads to the formation of syncytia and to a rapid shut-off of cellular RNA, DNA and protein syntheses.
