Summary
-
1.
Cross-circulation experiments are performed on conscious rats to determine normal plasma ADH-levels in various states of hydration. The infusion rates of arginine-vasopressin which lead to such ADH-levels (=secretion rates) are determined and thus the clearance of ADH calculated.
-
2.
ADH is not secreted in a continuous manner but in definite quanta. The frequency of liberation and the amounts liberated vary. The consequences of this phenomenon are discussed.
-
3.
The mean values for secretion rate and plasma level for a normally hydrated rat are 100–130 μU/10 min×100 g body weight and 1–1.5 μU/ml respectively. The respective values for a 16–24 hours thirsted animal are about 200 μU/5 min×100 g and 8 μU/ml.
-
4.
In the course of some experiments there is evidence for the existence of a humoral diuretic mechanism.
-
5.
Several 100 μU ADH can be liberated within a minute in the rat as a result of acute hemorrhage.
Zusammenfassung
-
1.
