Desmosome-like structures in the cytoplasm of normal human keratinocyte

Summary

Desmosome-like structures in the cytoplasm which have so far been described in tumoral and acantholytic epidermal cells were observed on two occasions in morphologically normal basal and prickle cells. It seems that under specific conditions a normal epidermal cell can lose its contact with the surrounding cell during cell division and forms intracytoplasmic desmosomes.
