Abstract

Using next generation sequencing (NGS), we located 1,121 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers in a reef-forming glass sponge, Aphrocallistes vastus. 16 SNPs were validated using Sanger sequencing. SNPs developed here are available for use in describing the genetic structure of glass sponge reefs, and demonstrate that NGS methods overcome problems posed by genomic DNA in some invertebrates.
