The story of World Surface Coatings Abstracts (WSCA) from its inception in 1928 as ‘Review of Current Literature relating to the Paint, Colour, Varnish and Allied Industries’ to the present day is described. Changes in production methods over the years are highlighted, with major changes having occurred since computerisation in 1976. Developments in relation to indexes, on-line, CD-ROM, and other formats are described. Coverage of the journal, which ranges from raw materials, through coatings types and properties, to health and safety regulations, business information etc, is also indicated, and examples are provided of topics appearing in the earlier years.

La littérature actuelle concernant les industries de la peinture, de la couleur, et du vernis, jusquà nos jours, est présentée et décrite. Des changements de méthodes de production au cours des années sont soulignés, surtout ceux qui se sont produits depuis lavènement de linformatique en 1976. Il y a des déscriptions des développements dans le domaine de lindex, de len ligne, des disques compacts ROM et dautres formats. La revue assure la couverture de toute une gamme de sujets, qui sétend des matières premières aux règlements sur la santé et la sécurité, informations commerciales etc., en passant par les genres de revêtements et leurs propriétés. Il y a aussi des exemples des articles sur des sujets traités dans les années précédentes.

Zusammenfassung

Aktuelle Arbeiten zu Anstrichen, Farben, Lacken und verwandten Industrien von 1928 bis heute werden vogestellt und beschrieben. Veränderungen in Produktionsmethoden über die Jahre werden herausgestellt, insbesondere die tiefgreitenden Entwicklungen seit der Anwendung von Computern seit 1976. Entwicklungen bezüglich Indexe, on-line, CD-ROM und anderen Formaten werden beschrieben. Die Reportage des Magazins, das Themenbereiche von Rohmaterialien zu Farb- und Lacktypen und -eigenschaften. Sicherheitsvorkehrungen und Wirtschaftsinformationen abdeckt, wird beschrieben und Beispiele gegeben.
