Spectral distortions of optical pulses in resonant media of complex spatial structure

Abstract

An analysis is made of spectral distortions of small-area short optical pulses as they propagate in inhomogeneous resonant media. The spectral distortion mechanism considered results from nonsteady-state refraction and depends on the geometric structure of the medium. Fractal and multifractal objects are considered as propagation media. The analysis is compared with the well studied dispersion mechanism of spectral distortion.
