Aplysia depilans ist fähig, Lipide, einschliesslich der Sterinen, aus Azetat zu synthetisieren. Cholesterin ist das wichtigste Sterin (87%), aber auch andere Sterine, bisher bei Opisthobranchia unbekannt, wurden gefunden.
