In de ambulancezorg komt vaak de melding binnen dat iemand ‘onwel’ is of gereanimeerd moet worden. Bij aankomst op locatie betreft het over het algemeen oudere patiënten die vaak al bekend zijn met hartfalen. In dit artikel aandacht voor een heel andere categorie patiënten: zij die op jonge leeftijd plotseling overlijden. De oorzaak en bekendheid met een onderliggende, congenitale afwijking vragen om kennis van en alertheid op een aanwezig long QT-syndroom.
