Abstract

Mild hypothermia remains the only therapeutic intervention with fair evidence of improving outcome after successful cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Two randomized controlled trials reported a clinically relevant increase in survival without severe neurological impairment of 15% at least for selected patients. International guidelines, including those from the European Resuscitation Council (ERC), recommend therapeutic hypothermia, but the devil is in the details.
