Fasting in obesity

Another cause of liver injury with alcoholic hyaline?

Summary

The authors report the case of a 23-year-old obese nonalcoholic woman who developed severe liver damage resembling alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis after multiple attempts at weight reduction. It is suggested that repeated episodes of starvation and malnutrition can induce the development of alcoholic-like liver injury in some overweight patients. This report could serve as a warning against unbalanced and uncontrolled self-treatment of obesity.
