Tools for Diagnostics and Assessment of Remaining Lifetime of Friction Units at Operation of Gas Turbine Engines

  • Published:
Optoelectronics, Instrumentation and Data Processing Aims and scope

Abstract

The article presents the approach to constructing the tools for diagnosing dangerous states of gas turbine engines caused by destruction of bearing assemblies of power units. The approach is based on continuous monitoring of external factors acting on a bearing and inspection of the presence of metal particles in the engine oil system, which are carried out by means of original eddy current sensors, simulation of the bearing wear, and assessment of its remaining lifetime under varying operation conditions. This allows online determining the remaining life of the bearing assembly and predicting the time until its destruction, which, in its turn, provides the opportunity to prevent development of emergency situations.
