Abstract
The time evolution of Van Kampen waves is analyzed by solving the kinetic equation for the plasma particle distribution function. The damping law for Van Kampen waves, ∝Bexp(−C(Ωt)3), obtained earlier from qualitative considerations, is confirmed. The values of the constants B and C are found, and comparison with the previous analysis is made.
