Abstract
A new form of the exact solution to the exterior problem for a beam representing a fragment of an electron flow with an arbitrary cross section in a planar diode is obtained in the case of emission in the ρ mode. Particular forms of the general expression for circular and elliptical cross sections are presented. The case of a temperature-limited emission is considered.
