Abstract

The phenomenon of ultrahigh charging of dust particles under the action of an electron beam has been studied. The electron energy was 25 keV and the characteristic size of dispersed aluminum oxide micro-particles was about 100 μm. The charge acquired by a dust particle amounted to 5 × 107 e, which corresponds to a charge of 106 e for a micron-sized particle and is greater by at least two orders of magnitude than the characteristic values of charge observed for particles of the same size in low-pressure gas discharge.
