Correction to: Traces of the Common Origin of Carte Pisane, Cortona Chart, and Pietro Vesconte’s Charts

The original version of this article unfortunately contains the following mistakes:

• 1. Reference Nordenskiöld 1987 should read Nordenskiöld 1897.

• 2. Reference Campbell 1978 should read Campbell 1987.

• 3. Note 12 should have read: Normal equidistant conic projection with standard parallel φ = 36° N (the parallel of Rhodes).

• 4. Figure 11 should have been the following:

  

  The LSE-induced tilts of subsections of Pietro Vesconte’s composite chart obtained in comparison to a modern map in Mercator projection (see Table 4), and the graticule of a modern map in Ptolemy’s first projection if λ = 6°W (near Gibraltar) is set as its central meridian.   • 5. The second sentence in the last paragraph of Sect. 5 Common Origin Hypothesis should have read:

    For example; when the usual territorial coverage of portolan charts is shown on a modern map in Ptolemy’s first projection set in such a way that the approximate western end of the Mediterranean Sea (λ = 6°W near Gibraltar) is selected as its central meridian which is plotted vertically, the meridians of its western section are plotted with tilts which approximately correspond to the values of the LSE-induced tilts of the portolan chart subsections on that area (Fig. 11, Table 4).
