Dear readers, colleagues and friends,

On behalf of the Editors and the Editorial Board, I wish you all a Healthy, Happy and productive New Year 2022; without pandemia and further restrictions in our lives. It would be a great pleasure for us all, to have the opportunity to meet in person during the 16th Congress of EAPD in Lisbon, Portugal, June 15th–18th 2022.

The European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry has the privilege to proudly announce the publication of the updated EAPD policy document “Best clinical practice guidance for clinicians dealing with children presenting with Molar-Incisor-Hypomineralisation (MIH)”, as well as to dedicate this first issue of 2022 by publishing research solely on MIH. It is expected that more important publications on this topic will be released in the next years as multiple groups around the world are involved in research on MIH. The European Archives of Paediatric Dentistry is amongst the journals with the most publications on MIH globally.

Patients with MIH are always a challenge for the clinician, especially at a younger age, thus clear and comprehensive guidelines are required to assist the correct management. The EAPD was the first international scientific organisation that extensively studied MIH and developed a policy document and relevant publications. It has been 12 years since the previous document. Since then, research has focused on understanding the aetiology as well as making recommendations for treatment. It is now clearer that its aetiology follows the multifactorial model, involving systemic medical and epigenetic/genetic factors acting synergistically and that contemporary treatment options depend on the severity of the defect in addition to the age of the patient.

The EAPD wishes to thank the experts who contributed to the publication of the present updated EAPD policy document, as well as the authors of all the related to MIH systematic reviews and relevant papers that are published in this issue. I strongly believe that 12 years after the first dedicated to MIH issue, the present one will be again a valuable tool in the hands of any paediatric dentist or general practitioner when treating children and adolescents with MIH.

One more very important special issue, including the relevant policy document and the supporting systematic reviews, has been scheduled later this year on the ‘Management of deep carious lesions in primary teeth’. This was the main topic of the previous 12th Interim Seminar and Guidelines Workshop in Oslo, April 23rd–24th, 2021.

Finally, being in the beginning of this year, I take the opportunity to sincerely thank all the previous members of the Editorial Board that helped the development of the journal the last 3 years and to welcome the newly appointed members in addition to the recently established Section Editors. They are all distinguished colleagues, dedicated to everlasting efforts for enhancing the value and reputation of our journal.
