Abstract
The common integument (skin) with its dermal and subcutaneous components has aroused enormous interest in research and clinical aspects in recent years. Obesity with all the associated problems has become established in industrial countries as a form of epidemic. On the other hand liposuction with all the various indications has developed into the most commonly applied aesthetic intervention. As a byproduct of this method adipose tissue has proven to be a very potent source of mesenchymal stem cells for regenerative medicine. These stem cells are assigned as anatomical niches and are important for the maintenance, repair and regeneration of tissue.
