Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the sexual dysfunctions (SDs) of predialysis (PD) and hemodialysis (HD) patients. Fifty two PD patients and 78 HD patients were recruited for the study. The Arizona Sexual Life Scale (ASEX) were administered to the participants. Average ASEX score 21 (15–24) in women of HD group was higher than men of HD group 14 (11–17) and men of PD group 15 (12–19) while average ASEX score in women of PD group 16.5(13.3–18) was higher than men of HD group (p = 0.001, p = 0.014, p = 0.048, respectively). Patients with high ASEX score worked less and their number of weekly sexual relationship was smaller (p = 0.01, p = 0.007, respectively). As smoking increased so did ASEX score (p = 0.015). In PD group, a negative correlation between ASEX score and BMI, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and use of calcium channel blocker (p = 0.019, p = 0.003, p < 0.001, p = 0.003, respectively) whereas a positive correlation between ASEX score and CKD time (p = 0.038) were existed. In HD group, ASEX score was correlated with employment status (p < 0.001). Sexual dysfunctions occurred more often in women under HD treatment and those participants who smoked.
