Objectives. To identify the factors responsible for the duration of the period from the onset of mental impairments to seeking medical help. Materials and methods. A total of 166 in-patients with neurotic disorders associated with stress and somatoform and affective disorders were studied. Clinical-psychopathological, history-taking, and psychometric methods were used. Results and conclusions. These studies established that a model of the time to seeking medical help by patients with neurotic disorders was multifactorial in nature and was characterized by strong multiple correlations (r = 0.85). The model developed here predicts the time to seeking medical help both individually for each patient and for the group of patients, and this may provide the grounds for creating a program to accelerate medical help-seeking.
