Abstract

This book is an exceptionally high-quality piece of work on the role played by domestic courts in Latin America in the development, codification, implementation of International Criminal Law. In particular, this book analyses how these courts have contributed to the definition of some international crimes, their elements, and their scope of application and, in so doing, have granted a better place to the legality principle as applied by continental legal systems. The book’s focus on Latin America is justified by the considerable amount of mass atrocities registered in the continent over the twentieth century by the hands of authoritarian regimes.
