Instability of the patella: evolution of surgical techniques

Abstract

Over the past century more than one hundred surgical techniques have been described for the treatment of patella instability without specific indications. In the latest years very important studies have been published and surgery became more selective and less invasive. The recent literature reports good results of medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction used alone or with additional bony procedures.
